- Over production of work in progress
- Waiting
- Transportation of parts/ materials/ tools
- Non value added processing
- Excess finished inventory
- Defects
- Excess people in motion
- Underutilised people
Lean Manufacturing will make your business / department more efficient because of cost reduction and because of this your business / department will be more profitable.

- Sort - determine what is required and what is not
- Straighten - Arrange items that are needed so that they are easy to use, labelled and anyone can find them and put them away
- Sweep - Clean and sweep on a regular and frequent basis so that when you need something it is there and it works
- Standardise - Revisit the first three of the 5s's on a regular and frequent basis and consolidate with standard procedures
- Self Discipline - To sustain and improve 5s activities through policy
