1. Over production of work in progress
2. Waiting
3. Transportation of parts/ materials/ tools
4. Non value added processing
5. Excess finished inventory
6. Defects
7. Excess people in motion
8. Underutilised people

Lean Manufacturing will make your business / department more efficient because of cost reduction and because of this your business / department will be more profitable.

1. Sort - determine what is required and what is not
   
2. Straighten - Arrange items that are needed so that they are easy to use, labelled and anyone can find them and put them away
   
3. Sweep - Clean and sweep on a regular and frequent basis so that when you need something it is there and it works
   
4. Standardise - Revisit the first three of the 5s's on a regular and frequent basis and consolidate with standard procedures
   
5. Self Discipline - To sustain and improve 5s activities through policy
